Lower Saucon Police Chief Thomas Barndt and Hellertown Police Chief Robert Shupp would like to thank everyone who attended and participated in our 2nd annual National Night Out Celebration Tuesday August 6th at Dimmick Park.
It may have been cloudy throughout the day but the sun was shining over Dimmick Park as families arrived for National Night Out. The community participation for this family-free evening was incredible and continued throughout the evening.
The evening started with opening remarks by the Police Chiefs and the singing of the National Anthem by Ms. Melissa Janis and her daughter Maddie Janis. The fun then began with the moon bounce, kid’s bike rodeo & safety check, dancing to the music from Sonic Entertainment, jumbo soccer darts, rock climbing wall, face painting, balloon twisting, coloring, picking ducks from the fish pond and much more. Let’s not forget the free hot dogs, Rita’s Ice, ice cream and snack bags.
Other events were a demo by the Bethlehem Police Department K9 Accelerant Detection Dog “Silver” and handler Detective Doug Nothstein, Tug of War between the police departments and fire departments, best National Night Out dog contest, and a water balloon battle between the police and children. We cannot forget the dumping of ice cold buckets of water over the heads of Police Chief Barndt and Shupp by their officers while they were having a picture taken.
This year the trophy for the police department tug of war again went to the Hellertown Police Department. The trophy for police vs. fire department tug of war went to the fire department.
This family-free event was made possible by the many generous donations and support from our community.
A HUGE THANK YOU to our sponsors for supporting our 2019 National Night Out Celebration
