Starting June 05, 2025, Paul Miller’s Law will be in effect. This law prohibits, as a primary offense, any driver from using an interactive mobile device (IMB) while driving a motor vehicle.
The law defines interactive mobile devices (IMB) as the following;
- Handheld Wireless Telephone
- Personal Digital Assistant
- Smart Phone
- Portable / Mobile Computer
- Similar devices that can send and receive electronic data
The law also defines driving as the following;
- Operating a motor vehicle on a highway
- Anytime the vehicle is temporarily stationary due to traffic, traffic control device, or other momentary delay
In 2023, there were 11,262 crashes involving a distracted driver in Pennsylvania which resulted in 65 fatalities and 409 suspected serious injuries.
