On June 29, 2023, Forks Township police officers responded to a residence in the 4200 block of Shadowstone Drive for a welfare check. Upon arrival, officers made contact with two adults and two children. Officers informed the tenants renting the home that they were dispatched to the residence for a welfare check. The adult tenants provided identification to the officers. Both identifications were suspected by officers to be false, however, the tenants claimed they were the people on the identifications. Officers cleared from the residence and an investigation was initiated regarding the identifications.

Forks Township detectives utilized facial images from the officers' body cam footage to submit into the Regional Intelligence Investigation Center for facial recognition. The investigation revealed both parties provided false identification, including Donald Neil Coote, who was charged by criminal complaint with (1 count) Altered, Forged, or Counterfeit Documents (M1) and (1 count) False Identification to Law Enforcement Officer (M3).
