The Detective Division of the Bushkill Township Police Department plays a vital role in the investigation of crimes within the township’s jurisdiction. This specialized unit is responsible for the thorough investigation of criminal offenses, from initial scene response through prosecution support.
Key responsibilities of the division include:
- Crime Scene Processing & Evidence Management. Detectives respond to crime scenes to document, preserve, and collect evidence. This includes photographing the scene, collecting physical and forensic evidence, and dusting for latent fingerprints. Evidence is carefully processed in a controlled environment, securely packaged, and forwarded to the Pennsylvania State Police Laboratory for further analysis.
- Victim Contact. Detectives maintain regular communication with victims to provide case updates, gather additional information, offer support and resources
- Evidence Examination. Utilizing forensic tools and investigative techniques, detectives examine evidence to identify suspects and support criminal case development.
- Affidavit Preparation. Detectives are responsible for preparing and filing of search warrant affidavits, arrest affidavits, and legal documents to ensure proper procedure in the search for and apprehension of suspects.
- Courtroom Testimony. Detectives regularly appear in court to present evidence, provide testimony in support of the prosecution, and provide expert testimony ensuring justice is served.
- Federal Task Force Assignment. Our detective is assigned as a Task Force Officer with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), serving as a federal agent. This officer assists with complex criminal investigations involving crimes against children and human trafficking enhancing the department’s reach and resources through interagency cooperation.
