On Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 1:57AM, as a Slate Belt Regional Police Officer was clearing a traffic stop, another driver of a vehicle had almost struck the Officer. The Officer also observed the vehicle had a headlamp out, so the Officer proceeded to follow the driver of the vehicle. The Officer observed the driver of the vehicle drift right, out of the lane of travel towards the shoulder where (unoccupied) vehicles were parked. The driver then abruptly turned back left to avoid striking the parked vehicles. The Officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, and made contact with the driver, identified as Matthew S. WERKEISER. Upon speaking with M. WERKEISER, the Officer observed signs and symptoms of impairment. A Standard Field Sobriety Tests were performed on M. WERKEISER, which determined he was impaired. M. WERKEISER was taken into custody and transported to a Northampton County DUI Center, where he agreed to submit a sample of his blood for chemical testing. M. WERKEISER'S B.A.C. was .27%. Charges against M. WERKEISER were filed.
