On October 2, 2019 at 1553hrs officers responded to the 2400blk of Black River Rd to check the welfare of a female who was reported to be lying on the floor and had not moved all day.
When police arrived at the address they found a female that was in a bedroom and she was unable to move or stand on her own. The female was transported by EMS to St. Lukes Hospital for treatment. Police observed in plain view multiple used syringes, multiple empty wax packets commonly used for packaging heroin, one wax packet with heroin residue inside, two metal spoons with white residue, and a small straw with white residue in the bedroom.
Through investigation and interviews Destini Czaplinski, age 25 admitted that she had purchased heroin on the night on October 1, 2019. Ms. Czaplinski and the female then when back to her bedroom to use the heroin. Ms. Czaplinski stated she injected heroin in the females foot after she was asked to because the female had never injected heroin.
Ms. Czaplinski said that they later went to sleep and that she heard a loud bang during the night. Ms. Czaplinski then stated when she woke up she found the female lying on the floor and the female said she could not feel her legs. Ms. Czaplinski never phoned anyone for emergency assistance for the female victim.
Destini Czaplinski was charged with Recklessly Endangering Another Person (M2), Possession of a Controlled Substance (M), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (M).
