On January 5, 2023, at 0747 hours, a Forks Township police officer conducted a traffic stop in the area of 610 Uhler Road for a vehicle following too closely and failure to stop at a red signal. The driver of the vehicle was positively identified as Cheulin Espinal Bodre. During the investigation, the officer detected an odor of marijuana emanating from within the vehicle, observed the driver had dilated pupils and she admitted to smoking marijuana on that date. The officer conducted a search of the vehicle and located marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Espinal Bodre participated in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Based on the results of those tests, as well as Espinal Bodre's admission of using marijuana, Espinal Bodre was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI-Drugs.
A Forks Township police detective conducted a DRE evaluation, where signs of impairment were observed. A legal blood draw was taken, which was positive for THC. Espinal Bodre was charged by criminal complaint with the following offenses:
